A tragic accident in Connecticut has claimed the life of the son of a retired deputy fire chief.
Shane Albert, the son of retired West Hartford Fire Department Deputy Chief Keith Albert, died Monday, Feb. 24, after a ratchet strap snapped and struck him in the head on Burnt Hill Road in Hebron, authorities said.

A retired Massachusetts firefighter who was now a UMass Lowell student has died nearly a week after being struck by a Lowell Police cruiser near campus, authorities announced.
Daniel Kennedy, 60, of Billerica, was struck and killed on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 6:23 p.m. on Wilder Street in Lowell, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan confirmed. He succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Lahey Hospital.
